Mountain Walk
Cerdded yn y Mynyddoedd
Tryfan
|
 |
| Name : Tryfan |
Meaning : Pointed
Peak |
Height : 3002 ft / 915 m |
| Starting Point
: The A5 - Idwal Cottage Youth Hostel at the western
end of Llyn Ogwen, GR 650603. Large car park. Fee payable. |
| Distance : 3 miles |
Ascent : 2007 ft
/ 612 m |
Estimated Time : 2 - 4 hours |
|
Route : From the car park take
the stone path, which has been laid to prevent further
erosion, south-east towards Tryfan. Where this path
turns sharply to the right (south-west) towards Llyn
Idwal, carry straight on over grassy, stony ground and
climb to Llyn Bochlwyd on another pitched path. Cross
Nant Bochlwyd - the stream which flows from the llyn
(lake) towards the A5 - and follow the clear path above
the llyn to the south-south-east. Once past the end
of the llyn, the path turns south-east once more and
starts to climb a rocky slope to the col (Bwlch Tryfan)
where there is a stone wall. From here turn northwards
(left). You will see the high rocky outcrop of Tryfan's
far South Peak ahead of you. Trend left to avoid it
and scramble over the rocks and boulders to the summit
of Tryfan itself. The two monoliths on the summit -
known as Adam and Eve - are a feature that is unique
in the mountains of Britain.
